moody and modern bathroom renovation
This builder basic bathroom was stuck in the 90s and in desperate need of an upgrade. Through a combination of DIY and modern design, the result is a gorgeous moody bathroom that breaks all the small, windowless bathroom “rules.”
To keep the costs of this renovation down, gutting it was not an option, so we kept the original layout, cabinetry, and tub and focused on high impact upgrades. We replaced the vinyl flooring with DIY-friendly hexagon shape groutable vinyl tile that has held up beautifully (no issues going on 5 years!). Fresh paint helped set the mood for the space with a deep charcoal (Behr Broadway) and the gorgeous green tile stacked vertically provides the modern, organic vibes that keep this look truly timeless and pairs perfectly with the walnut cabinetry and DIY concrete countertop that was added over the existing vinyl countertop and upgraded the sink faucet. For a fun upgrade, we replaced the standard bathroom fan with a Broan-NuTone fan that has built-in bluetooth speaker and lighting. Lastly we replaced the the frameless builder grade mirror with a stylish round gold mirror paired with a new light fixture and added a simple, modern glass shower panel to replace the shower curtain. I used black and gold accents throughout, anchored with a gorgeous gold shower hardware and an arm extension to create a rain shower head.
