warm california modern primary bedroom
For this primary bedroom, we wanted it to feel like a boutique southern California hotel and it was a tall order to add charm to a very generic townhouse bedroom. To make it feel warm, light and high-end we did a subtle lime wash paint in a creamy white on the walls (Portola Paints Blondie), accented with a whimsical hand painted entry (Behr Lambkin 25% lighter). Adding a half wall not only added architectural detail to the space, but also provides more texture with the painted bamboo paneling and a small faux terrazzo shelf for artwork and to hold the mini projector to watch big screen movies in bed on the drop down projector screen - a true vacation-like luxury!
The room is grounded by a neutral area rug centered underneath a trendy cream boucle bed frame and light wood rattan night stands. Lighting is critical to set the mood for the space, so we added hanging bedside sconces, a brass globe wall light, and voice controlled smart accent lighting along the half wall. For additional storage we used two dressers with oversized wood knobs as the base for a DIY desk that also functions well as a back-up work from home space.
